About Katy

Katy grew up in Beverly Hills, Michigan, and has been dancing for over 15 years, with experience in contemporary, ballet, jazz, tap, and hip hop. Her love for movement and the human body led her to Wayne State University, where she earned a BFA in Dance and a BSED in Kinesiology in 2021. During her time there, she discovered a deep passion for collaboration, movement as a form of therapy, and Pilates.

Her journey as a movement educator led her to pursue a full STOTT PILATES Certification through Equilibrium Pilates Studio. Inspired by her own experiences with hypermobility, back, and hip pain, she sought out additional healing modalities, earning a MELT Method Instructor Certification (developed by Sue Hitzmann) and a Reiki Practitioner Certification through Corewell Health’s Integrative Medicine Department.

Katy’s strong movement background, personal experience with pain and injury, and dedication to consistent physical practices give her a deep well of knowledge to support her clients. She approaches movement with empathy, believing in the powerful connection between emotional and physical well-being. She encourages her clients to see their time with her as not just a workout, but a space for healing, self-discovery, and care.

Pilates, MELT, & Reiki

I have been teaching Pilates since 2022 and completed my full STOTT PILATES Certification in April of 2024 which includes essential, intermediate, and advanced mat, reformer, cadillac, chair, and barrels repertoire, as well as specialized training in injuries and special populations. I deeply appreciate STOTT’s strong foundation in rehabilitation and kinesiology, as it provides me with the tools to support clients with a wide range of needs, limitations, and precautions. I have extensive experience working with clients managing both short- and long-term joint injuries, chronic pain and chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia, hypermobility and hypermobility syndromes such as LDS and EDS, arthritis (including but not limited to osteoarthritis), and osteopenia/osteoporosis.

I have more recently began to explore the neurofascial system through MELT Method, a self-care technique designed to restore fascia to a healthy, supportive state. Restoring the health of our fascial system helps to reduce chronic pain, improve mobility and muscular function, and enhance overall body functioning. Integrating MELT into my work has given me a deeper understanding of connective tissue and its profound impact on movement, mobility, pain, emotional well-being, and nervous system regulation.

I also incorporate Reiki into my work as a movement educator, which has given me a new perspective on pain, stress, and how the two are deeply connected. In sessions, I aim to create a safe and supportive movement experience that helps each client feel more confident, capable, and connected to their body.
